Ab imo pectore

Description

Ab Imo Pectore is a video project that initially began with a first version, which was later adapted for the D-A-CH Clip Wettbewerb 2021. It’s a poignant exploration of love’s fleeting nature, created in collaboration with Pinyapat Kunakornsakul, screened at Cinémathèque Luxembourg in November 2021.

The film addresses the theme of human sensitivity. It challenges societal norms by exploring how both men and women can be equally sensitive, capable of crying, feeling, and experiencing deep emotions. It critiques the generalizations about gender and emphasizes the importance of breaking free from stereotypes.

The story centers around a boy who, deeply in love, offers his heart to his beloved. She accepts the gift with tenderness but soon realizes that love, like time, can change—sometimes even transforming into something akin to disgust. As the boy’s constant affection becomes overbearing and his love unreciprocated, the girl’s feelings shift. Time and nature—symbolized by the watch and the cow—are portrayed as powerful forces that shape, distort, and renew emotions. These forces, the great puppeteers of life, govern human experiences and no one can escape their laws.

In her frustration, the girl decides to reject the boy’s love, deeply saddening him. Though the love is no longer relevant, its memory is preserved, locked away in a stone, untouched by time or external influences. The two chairs in the piece represent the love that can exist between two people, transcending gender, religion, and societal constraints—reminding us that love knows no boundaries.

“Love brings life, and it also destroys. It blooms and fades. Love is the flourishing life. But the flourishing life also withers.”
